What is Cancer?

Cancer is not one condition, but a multiple array of incredibly varied and complex conditions. Most commonly, it can occur when the cells of the body grow in an uncontrolled way. This can be due to genetic or environmental reasons. These cells can then spread to other parts of the body, and continue to grow in other organs. This process of growth and spread can cause significant physiological dysfunction, devastation to the body and is responsible for most cancer deaths.

War on Cancer?

The United States declared war on cancer in 1971. Since then, countless brilliant scientists equipped with billions of dollars of research funding have searched for solutions and cures. Fifty years later, despite multiple ground breaking insights and leaps, it is clear this war hasn't yet achieved its original intention. Presently, in the UK it is estimated 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime. However, though prevention of certain cancers is proving elusive, we know when cancer is detected and treated early this offers the best long term outcomes.

3 Pronged Approach:

  • Prevention

  • Early Detection

  • Focused Treatments

Prevention of Cancer?

Smoking, alcohol, obesity, metabolic dysfunction, specific exposure to toxic substances. These are all common causes we can try to address. Despite this, it remains challenging why cancer continues to occur randomly and unfairly in those whom we least expect it. At The Orial Clinic we try to apply all available knowledge to understand causation and offer you the best possible knowledge to help to reduce your risks

Early Detection

Presently many cancers are detected late, once they’re embedded in the body where they've had chance to seed and spread. At The Orial Clinic we believe in informed early, targeted, safe screening procedures to detect any concern as quickly as possible. Only through this can we achieve best outcomes. There may come a time when long lived people suffer multiple cancers on multiple occasions in their lifetime and are cured each time and ultimately die of something unrelated. This can only happen with effective early detection so to provide curative treatment.

New systems of detection include blood bio-markers, stool tests, improved imaging, and the exciting, emerging technologies of multi-cancer screening blood tests detecting cell free DNA.

Focused Treatments

The world of cancer treatment is changing fast. Sadly some cancers still respond poorly to treatment, but many emerging treatments are proving effective in ways we never knew before. We believe current research will continue to yield significant developments in treatments, best applied when the cancer is in its early stages. The Orial Clinic partners with leading experts to ensure all available options are available for our patients.
